- About the artwork – This artwork is part of an ongoing series of studio interiors, the latest version of which have been made during the ‘lockdown’ periods in 2021/21. I did a large number of studio studies at this time to investigate and explore ideas to develop my process. They have been heavily influenced by lots of drawing studies made from other interiors and works from Richard Diebenkorn and Edward Hopper in particular. I like to feature a focal point in my compositions- often a chair or in this case, a stool. Perhaps it is somewhat suggestive of a figure- one that cannot enter my studio at this present time due to the restrictions. I certainly feel that they contain an element of the solitude that I and lots of people feel at this time.
