- About the artwork – I have always be interested in cityscapes, and San Francisco in the perfect place to create compositions that contain many of the key elements that I am attracted too such as contrast, shadows, warm colours, shapes and leading lines. The influence of Bay area artists on my practice also made it an artistic pilgrimage for me. I have done a large series of paintings here- and ‘San Francisco 5’ is typical of this. Void of people- it also suggests a link to Edward’s Hoppers works, and this is was more relevant during the global pandemic of 2020/21. Above it, the architectural forms of nearby buildings stood in stark contrast to the organic features of the landscape. The sun-drenched beach by the South Pacific Ocean, occupied a wedge of space on the right-hand side, completing this evocative scene.
