- About the artwork – I made many studies around the the North East Side of New York in the summer of 2022 as shown by this study. I was attracted to this composition because of the perspective, shade, light, contrast- and a general balance between urban and rural, but also here because of the strong light and perspective that is suggested along the road and off towards the city and the buildings beyond. I also really liked the yellow painted sidewalk- something that you don’t tend to get in the UK and a feature that is probably very mundane to a New Yorker, as well as the distinctive ‘Hopperesque’ water tower on top of the building in the distance.
