- About the artwork – Coit Tower has been a subject that I have returned to often in my work. It sits on top of Telegraph hill and is viewable from many angles around San Francisco, so it is a popular landmark and one that works well in my compositions. I remember reading about Coit Tower when I was researching mid 20th century American painting, as inside it features several fresco murals in the American Social Realism style, painted by 25 different artists. I loved this part of the city and I did lots of sketching and note taking that went on to form the basis for a number of San Francisco series artworks. This particular piece was also made on canvas attached to board so that I could combine the effects of a hard surface that I like which the durability and texture of canvas.
