DATE: 19th,20th,21st,22nd,23rd JULY 2024 ALL LEVELS MATERIALS: OILS OR ACRYLIC ALL MATERIALS & REFRESHMENTS/LUNCH ARE INCLUDED This outdoor-based course is designed for those who have always wanted to try painting ‘en plein air’ but don’t know where to start. We will focus more on capturing the spirit of place rather than depicting it too literally. The course is suitable for artists of all abilities; is also ideal for those who want to move away from detailed work towards a looser, more expressive style, using either acrylic or oils. You will explore the art of painting ‘en plein air’ in a supportive and relaxed, creative environment surrounded by Bullclough’s beautiful countryside. Starting from the very fundamental aspects of capturing compositions through sketchbook studies, we will explore our surroundings to gather source material. Supported and inspired by the work of other artists, you will be encouraged to incorporate your own experiences and techniques - using them to develop elements in your work in new and exciting directions. We will explore colour theory, from how to prime a surface ready for painting, to working with a palette, how to thin paint, mix and apply colours. We will look at which brushes to use for different effects and how to draw and build up an artwork using underpainting- all with the aim of working outside in our surrounding and in all elements. NB: If it rains we do also have indoor studios with fabulous views to move into.
