- About the artwork – This oil on canvas piece has been influenced by many other studies, brought together into one composition. I did a workshop at Bethell’s Beach whilst in New Zealand for an art group- and the arrangement of the table and chairs is taken from one of the interior sketches made here. The location of Seaview was elsewhere in New Zealand, on the South Islands West Coast. I stayed here and sketched the views across to the Pacific beyond from the rooms of a hostel that was once a mental asylum. I wanted to combine both of these locations into one piece- which also contained other influences from Richard Diebeknorn’s 1950’s Californian interiors. All of these infusions I find fascinating and contribute to what I consider to be an interested piece.
