- About the artwork – I have always be interested in cityscapes, and San Francisco in the perfect place to create compositions that contain many of the key elements that I am attracted too such as contrast, shadows, warm colours, shapes and leading lines. The influence of Bay area artists on my practice also made it an artistic pilgrimage for me. Void of people- it also suggests a link to Edward’s Hoppers works, and this is was more relevant during the global pandemic of 2020/21. It also a reference to an artist I met in Auckland, New Zealand- Matthew Carter, whose urban scenes and a sense of the abstraction in the concrete environment influenced me hugely during my younger days.
