- About the artwork – New York (Queensboro Bridge) by Tom Voyce presents an abstracted view of the Queensboro Bridge as it recedes across the East River. Completed in 1909, the bridge connects Long Island City in Queens to Manhattan at 59th Street, passing over Roosevelt Island.
Inspired by Edward Hopper, who featured the bridge in a 1913 painting, this study shifts away from Hopper’s atmospheric realism. Instead, it emphasises sharp linear structure, extreme perspective, and saturated colour. The bold geometry and heightened palette connect to the spatial abstraction of Richard Diebenkorn, the tonal intensity of Wayne Thiebaud, and the urban clarity of Ben Aronson.
The result balances architectural precision with expressive colour and dynamic depth.
