- About the artwork – This artwork is part of a small series of works made from sketches taken in New York in the summer of 2022. In particular, I made many studies around the the North East Side, Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea. This artwork was made around the Hell’s Kitchen area- a building site looking towards to centre on Manhatten. I was attracted to this composition because of the perspective, shade, light, contrast- and a general balance between the seemingly ‘rural’ area that had been left on the left and the more urban cityscape beyond. The strong cast of shadow from the high wall on the left hangs over creating interesting shapes and intersections.
