About the artwork –Californian Landscape is an imagined landscape inspired by the diverse scenery of San Francisco and the wider San Francisco Bay Area. Rather than depicting a single location, the work brings together impressions gathered from drawings, photographs, and observations made across the region. Through a process of accumulation and careful compositional choices, familiar landforms, vegetation, architecture, and atmosphere are reconfigured into a new, fictional landscape that evokes the character of California without representing a specific place- as seen through the eyes of an outsider not used to this landscape. The painting explores the relationship between memory, observation, and invention, transforming multiple sources into a unified and evocative vision.
